Overview
Like a straw in the wind, this pole leans slightly to the side on its way across the landscape.
The simple construction consists of one tilted pole, tow wires to secure the pole and one wire to keep the conductors in place. This makes for a flexible structure, which is able to cope with influences such as wind and snow.
The warm colour of weathering steel suits the many shades of landscape and raw nature that a power line encounters. The straw mast is a universal element by virtue of its simple form and the way its material interacts with the surroundings.
The Straw consists of two triangle sections, which are joined in the middle with a cast joint in weathering steel. The base and the top of the Straw are also made of cast weathering steel, expressing one integrated construction.
To keep the straw from tipping, two spiral-strand cables stretch between the top of the pole and the ground. A third cable attaches to the top of the pole and anchors vertically down to the ground, keeping the conductors and cables in place.
