Overview
The initiating processes determine the nature and scope of the project. If this stage is not performed well, it is unlikely that the project will be successful in meeting the client’s business needs.
The initiating stage includes a plan that encompasses the following areas:
- Analyzing the client’s business objectives, needs, and requirements in measurable goals
- Stakeholder analysis, including users, and support personnel for the project
- Developing the project charter including tasks, deliverables, and schedule. The Project Initiation Report prepared by Sinopa typically documents the following and is used later for issuing of Request for Proposals (RFP) during the later stages of the project:
- Project rational
- Objectives and constraints of the project
- Directions concerning the solution
- Identities of the main stakeholders
- In-scope and out-of-scope items
- Communication plan
- Target project benefits
- Schedule
